Removing Cutting Oil and Coolant: Parts Washers for Machined Components
Machined parts come off the CNC covered in cutting oil, coolant, chips, and metalworking residue. Before inspection, assembly, coating, or shipment, these parts need to be thoroughly clean. The right parts washer handles this automatically — without tying up operator time or compromising dimensional tolerances.
The Challenge: Cutting Oil and Coolant Are Stubborn
Modern cutting fluids are formulated to cling to metal surfaces and resist displacement. Synthetic coolants, semi-synthetic fluids, and straight cutting oils all create a tenacious film on machined surfaces that requires thermal, chemical, and mechanical energy to remove.
Aqueous parts washers apply all three simultaneously: heated solution (chemical + thermal) delivered at high pressure (mechanical). This combination cuts through cutting oil residue and suspends metallic chips and fines in the wash tank, preventing recontamination of clean parts.
Protecting Tight Tolerances and Surface Finish
Precision machined components cannot tolerate abrasion or corrosion during the cleaning process. Magido's stainless steel construction (AISI 304) and adjustable temperature controls protect part surfaces. Water temperature is adjustable up to 150°F — hot enough to activate detergent chemistry without thermal distortion risk for most ferrous and aluminum components.
For delicate surfaces or softer alloys, Magido's immersion washers provide gentle but thorough cleaning through fluid agitation rather than direct spray impact.
Handling Chips and Metallic Fines
CNC machining generates chips — aluminum, steel, and cast iron fines that contaminate wash tanks if not managed. Magido washers include filtration systems that capture chips and metallic debris before they recirculate through the pump. Optional chip baskets and magnetic separators are available for high-chip-volume applications.
Regular tank maintenance keeps wash solution effective longer and protects the pump from abrasive wear.
Inline Washing for Production Environments
Machine shops with production lines benefit from inline belt conveyor washers that integrate directly into the part flow. Magido's Gold and Gold/2 series conveyors handle continuous throughput of machined parts — parts load onto the infeed belt, pass through wash and rinse zones, and exit dry and clean without operator intervention between cycles.
For batch machining operations, top-load and front-load spray cabinet washers provide flexible cleaning for mixed part geometries common in job shops.
